Who is CareNZ?

CareNZ helps people – as well as those who love them – struggling with alcohol and/or drug abuse problems to change their lives for the better.

Every year we assist more than 2,700 New Zealanders overcome their addiction issues. For most, we’re a free service – funded through the public health system – and work with you to help you make the change.

CareNZ is the delivery arm of NSAD (The New Zealand Society on Alcohol and Drug Dependence) – a charitable foundation which has been involved in alcohol and drug treatment policy and delivery in New Zealand since 1954.

Our aim is to restore hope, healing and health to people affected by addiction to alcohol and other drugs. The treatment services we offer are available to anyone – regardless of age, race, sex, financial situation and occupation.

CareNZ has 10 clinics spread throughout these regions that offer a diverse range of treatment services. Currently we can be found in South Auckland, the wider Waikato, Kapiti, Porirua, Lower Hutt, Wellington and in Christchurch.

Also, since 1997, CareNZ has – in conjunction with the Department of Corrections – been running alcohol and drug treatment programme in prisons. These offer inmates around the country an opportunity to address their drug and alcohol issues while still serving time and the hope of a new way of life when they get out.

We understand that no two peoples’ addictions are exactly the same and that’s why CareNZ specifically tailor an individual’s treatment to that person’s needs. Because alcohol and drug problems don’t just hurt the person involved, but their loved ones as well, we believe it’s important to include significant others and support networks in a person’s treatment and recovery plan.

CareNZ is all about people and we want to help you and people find healthy, helpful ways to get out of the grip that alcohol and drug problems are creating in their life.
